Administrators of the Fund
The Trustees of the Academy of Richmond County is a venerable organization that can trace its roots back to the original founding of Augusta Georgia. Chartered by the Georgia legislature in 1783, the Trustees have served many civic functions, from sponsoring the school, to being a quasi-government before the City’s incorporation in 1798, to administering scholarship and grant programs, and more. Throughout its history, the Trustees of the Academy of Richmond County have faithfully worked to grow and expand the community’s vibrant cultural and intellectual landscape. The Porter Fleming Fund is the perfect example of this ethos, serving as a beacon of support for local projects that foster creative excellence in learning, beauty, intellect, and taste
The Muses
At the heart of the Porter Fleming Fund's ethos lies a deep reverence for creativity and knowledge, embodied by the nine muses of Greek mythology. These muses symbolize the diverse facets of human expression—from epic poetry to astronomy—and serve as timeless inspirations for artistic and intellectual pursuits.
By embracing the muses, the Fund honors their legacy by fostering educational, literary, artistic, scientific, historical, musical, and cultural enrichment throughout Augusta and its neighboring communities. Our logo proudly reflects this commitment to cultivating a vibrant, muse-inspired community dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in all creative and scholarly endeavors
